RAM is cheap if you have money.  Some people dont.  Others use laptops where
RAM is expensive and we are all trying to eek out more battery life.

Gobs of scripts run at startup and elsewhere, many do not need bash's bloat.

Yes, on slower machines the difference is quite obvious, both in speed and mem.

Remember your friends who use 486's and lower.  Remember your friends on old
Suns and m68k boxen.  Not everyone has the luxury of throwing 64mb at a machine
and besides, as computer scientists, engineers, and hobbyists, should we not
strive for doing the right thing and not the "throw money and waste" solution.
