That's a good idea but I have to be enlightened myself about this
line, because the following /etc/mailcap.order doesn't work for me:

/etc/mailcap.order
###############################################################################
#
# Mailcap.order: This file allows a system-wide override of MIME program
# preferences. See the mailcap.order(5) man page for more information.
#
# After modifying this file, be sure to run /usr/sbin/update-mime (as root)
# to propagate the changes into the /etc/mailcap file.
#
################################################################################paul:image/*

And, yes, I did `update-mime` successfully because my /etc/mailcap file
lists this as the first (uncommented) lines:

image/gif; paul '%s'; description="GIF Image"; test=test "$DISPLAY"
image/jpeg; paul '%s'; description="JPEG Image"; test=test "$DISPLAY"
image/tiff; paul '%s'; description="TIFF Image"; test=test "$DISPLAY"
...

But the stubborn netscape uses xv in any case (even changing the preferences
manually doesn't work; the xv entry remains even if I immediately
try to reedit the preferences :-().

What am I doing wrong?

Kind regards

       Andreas.
