In fact "base" is an alias for the boot-floppies team, as many people use
"base" to report bugs against the base system.

Ok, let's call it a tie. As Santiago explains below (an any cold-headed
person may have seen yet), there are *two* bugs here.
 
Santiago, may you file a different bug for b) so that we may stop
fighting about what #32888 is about and start working on fixing
_both_ bugs?
