I had the xf86setup package installed; are you saying that I needed the
xdm package, or did I missunderstand what you are saying?

Well, I'm now using using blackbox, but I don't think that thats much of a
work around. :-) I do have a few thoughts I might share. Here is my
.xsession-errors file, with comments:

In addition, netscape refuses to start, once more complaining about
locale problems. Could this be the source of the problem with the fonts?
