Hi all, Recently there have been alot of expressed interests in a way to maintain multiple debian linux machines, all with similar configuration. This just goes to show how popular debian is becoming - and how far our reputation as the most manageable system is taking us. However, what we don't seem to have is a clear-cut answer for any of these queries. This is because a) we don't have a great way to do this ATM, and b) we haven't really decided how to tackle this problem. Now I realise that this topic was covered some time ago, and there may be quite a few of us working on different ways of achieving this, but what seems to be lacking is some form of formal specification, and project control. What I would like to propose is that those of us interested in this project form a development group to identify all the requirements and implementation details for the system. This would allow us to produce something that addresses all needs, yet frees us from the difficulties inherent from developing in a public forum such as the debian-devel list. So, as a first step, I would propose that a seperate mailing list be set up, and those of us interested subscribe to the list. I would also suggest that people start off by first mailing what they feel are the requirements for this kind of system. Once these requirements have been aired we can begin to look at ways of tackling the various problems involved. Of course, I have assumed here that there is not currently a project team tackling this already. However, if there is, perhaps they could benefit from this scheme, which would allowing a bit more input into their design plans. Do people consider this a reasonable idea?
