Sounds plausible.  Linux has msdosfs which lets you look at DOS
filesystems.  There's also a vfat filesystem to support win95 filenames.
Then there's UMSDOS which has the intention of allowing one to install
without repartitioning one's hard disc.  UMSDOS contains support for
things like symlinks which msdosfs does not hence the confusion.
