Having a standard editor around which a slightly experienced sysadmin
can expect to be there is far more ease of use than having to
encounter yet another editor which is possibly not as powerful as vi
is.

It simply is one of the most powerful editors available with the added
benefit of being pretty small. Sometimes ease of use can be a serious
hinderance when a programs true powerfulness is sacrificed for it.
That's why i just hate "ae". It's so easy that it is almost useless.
