Is xforms0.86 save to install?

BY the way, I don't feel comfortable about posting to the developers's
list, although I do lurk there.  

I had some trouble installing some packages that needed xforms0.86.
xforms0.86, in turn, needed elf-x11r6lib, which apparently is
obsolete.  

Is it safe to install xforms0.86, not including the dev package?  

Thank you for any possible reply, as well as to the several thoughtful
people who have responded to other concerns of mine recently.
