I did not do that because I didn't want to change the well-known
semantics of the ip-op scripts that are the same throughout all Linux
distributions. It would too easily break scripts copied over from over
systems.

Well, if you have dynamic IP, you gotta have a script that sets the
routing and a second script that adapts the firewall rules to the
dynamic IP number.

Also, if you trigger some network operations (such as mail and/or news
transfer, time synchronisation or similiar), you can get a couple of
scripts at least.

Well, as things develop, I think that we won't have that ip.d approach
like I suggested but rather a symlink approach to be able to control
the run order. That way, we'd only need the distribution scripts to
set $RUN_ORDER. The rest could be done independently.

I'd probably work on a file-rc approach for the PPP stuff.

That will be one of two options IMO.
