No problem. I just recommend to remove the option completely.

No, the server comes up, but I lack some important keys on my German
keyboard, like '|' and '~'. I linked xkbcomp back to its old location and
everything's fine again.

I agree completely.

I have no problems with it. I'm long enough into this to be able to work
around some particular problems. :-)
