problems with dselect/apt

hello,

since i installed debian some weeks ago i encounter problems when trying to
update the system, or want to install new packages, further i wanted to pass on
to apt, but this doesn't work due to the dpkg problems i still have:

on dselect->config i get the following messages:i

running dpkg --pending
--configure ...

Emacs use.'

Press RETURN to continue.

now netscape isntalled successfully and is up and running, but for some reason
it is tagged as unconfigured....

but more annoying are the other packages that don't install

the problem with e.g. the gmp2 package is that it reports too bad state to be
removed, necessiting a reinstallation, which isn't possible....

trying to use apt doesn't solve the problem:
fiddling around make it even worse, now i have from the apt-get update:
Checking system integrity...dependency error
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these.
Sorry, but the following packages are broken - this means they have unmet
dependencies:
  libc6-doc: Depends:libc6

what can i do to get again a clean system?

BTW i didn't managed to get onto the devel mailing list, so please enclose a CC
to me when replying.

ciao
