The valid patches would just get bigger and bigger, since dpkg isn't
maintained upstream. It looks like the last change by someone with
CVS access was in April, and the last release by an actual dpkg author
was in July of 1997.
This is unfortunate, since the experimental tree of dpkg in CVS shows
lots of promise.
