Eeek, that's awful. 
Even if it didn't delete /tmp it would mess up the permissions. 
/tmp should be mode 1777, this would probably leave it 0775 or 0755.

Also, please don't Cc mailing lists and submit@bugs, use X-Debian-CC otherwise
each followup will open a new bug report.
