RFC: debian-bench

A package I'd really like to see in slink is some kind of simple
benchmarker.

I run debian on a 486 and a 586, and I have just acquired some SS2s that
I'll probably put debian on, and one day hopefully they'll be a kernel for
my powerpc, so I'll put debian on that..

And I'd love to know their relative performance.

So, this is a kind of vague intent-to-package, except that I don't yet know
what to package. I'm looking for a DFSG-free, simple, fast, benchmarker.

I'm fairly sure that the BYTE benchmark isn't DFSG free, although I don't
have it handy to check..

Any thoughts, anyone?

Jules
