>From what I recall, EGCS already incorporates many of the optimizations
found in PGCC and others not found in PGCC, too.  Try using egcs C/C++
compilers with the "-mpentium" or "-mpentiumpro" compiler flag.  There are
some other flags, which I forget, that also cause the compiler to produce
code that will only work on a given architecture (probably the "-march"
flag).

By the way, I thought it was a little uncool how Stampede said they were
better then Debian (and Redhat and Slackware).  I've always liked the way
the Linux community supports everyone and doesn't trash the different
distributions.  While I don't believe that was Stampede's intent, it was
still not something that agreed with me.  Stampede does look interesting,
however.

Who are we going to get to recompile all of the packages just for i586
machines?  :)
