Earlier versions would not work with the cvs archive. Earlier versions
will not pass tests in the glibc build process.

With CVS installed, the glibc config process finds it and configures tests
that involve its use. These tests fail if the version is too old.

There are other reasons to maintain a version of cvs on your system
(several debian related projects use it) for various development purposes.
It should be our goal to have central packages like libc6 exist in a
distribution that will build them correctly.
