Cannot start my binaries anymore

Somehow something went berserk.

I can compile and link a binary, but I cannot execute it anymore:

 gcc -v -o ecpg y.tab.o pgc.o type.o ecpg.o ../lib/typename.o
Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/2.7.2.3/specs
gcc version 2.7.2.3
 ld -m elf_i386 -dynamic-linker /lib/ld-linux.so.2 -o ecpg /usr/lib/crt1.o
/usr/lib/crti.o /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/2.7.2.3/crtbegin.o
-L/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/2.7.2.3 y.tab.o pgc.o type.o ecpg.o
../lib/typename.o -lgcc -lc -lgcc
/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/2.7.2.3/crtend.o /usr/lib/crtn.o
gauss:preproc 193) ./ecpg
Illegal instruction (core dumped)

This happened at my home machine around the weekend. I then copied the
crt*.o files from my office machine and everything was fine again. Now I
installed the latest packages onto my office machine just to see the same
problem (note, that my home machine had the same old packages that worked
well in my office).

Any idea?
