Re: debian-devel-digest Digest V98 #69



Given the following, maybe it is necessary to file a bug with the doc
packages?  It seems that Manoj is technically right, but people will
probably continue to file bugreports and be confused given the switch
from /usr/src/ to /usr/local/src, if more is not done to educate them
both locally and upstream.

 Now, in /usr/src, unpack the source with `tar zxpvf linux-
 x.y.z.tar.gz' (if you've just got a .tar file with no .gz at the end,
 `tar xpvf linux-x.y.z.tar' works.).  The contents of the source will
 fly by. When finished, there will be a new `linux' directory in
 /usr/src.

And with the kernel package as well: (from the README file).

INSTALLING the kernel:
 - If you install the full sources, do a
                cd /usr/src
                gzip -cd linux-2.0.XX.tar.gz | tar xfv -
