yeah, i noticed that to. it wasn't too hard to fix up by hand, though.

it's not great, but it's much better than ae's native mode.
suggested solution:
if the 'ae -f /etc/ae2vi.rc "$1" "$2"' wrapper script on the boot disk
was renamed to vi.ae, and the usual /etc/alternatives/vi sym link
pointed to it, then there wouldn't be a problem.
/usr/bin/vi.ae -- wrapper script
/usr/bin/vi -- symlink to /etc/alternatives/vi
/etc/alternatives/vi -- symlink to /usr/bin/vi.ae
