I suspect it was compiled with gcc-2.7.2.2 and the missing file is
/lib/ld-linux.so.2.

Yep, /lib/ld-linux.so.2 comes with libc6.

The default for gcc-2.7.2.2 is to use libc6. If you are not doing
libc6 development yet, revert back to gcc-2.7.2.1.
