I absolutely agree that ae should continue to be modeless, and that 
this is the easyest mode for new users, but I was thinking of all 
those complaints about the missing of vi during installation.

I had a report from an italian friend who discarted debian because of
this (he didn't even run dselect :-)

My suggestion was to add an alias, a shell function or a small script
who maps the command "vi" to ae -f modevi.rc  so the command "ae" works
modeless, and "vi" works as vi .

It's a very little add to the base disks, but can give a better feeling
to all those vi-dependent (like me) that happen to be also "opinion
makers".
