Libc6 progress: 1997-12-06
This is a list of packages in the main distribution that need work to
be fully libc6-based. I base it on the Packages file at my local mirror,
so it may be a day or two out of date. If you have questions about why
a particular package is on the list, or if you think there is an error,
don't hesitate to contact me.
Packages acm, ctwm, sox, tetex-bin, xmgr, and zgv have been upgraded.
Packages adbbs, apache-modules, awe-patch, awe-utils, gpc, and isite
have been removed from the main distribution.
I added the library libfcgi1 to the list because there seems to be
no libc6 version. (I must have taken it out by mistake).
I have libc6 versions of the python packages ready, but I'm waiting
for a reply from Klee.
There seems to have been a communication failure with the package
psutils. I have seen two libc6-based uploads by Rob Browning,
psutils-1.16-5 and psutils-1.16-6. The former had "New maintainer" in
the changelog. But today I found a libc5-based psutils-1.17-1 in the
Packages file, with maintainer Paul Seelig. It also had "New
maintainer" in the changelog, but the previous version mentioned in
the changelog was 1.16-4.
There are now 143 packages in the list, with upgrades on the way for 6
more. Progress seems to have stalled on this front. Perhaps the
remaining packages are truly uninteresting :-)
(There are a handful of packages with specific reasons to still be
libc5-based).
I would like to thank everyone who helped convert packages to libc6,
particularly the people who took time to do non-maintainer releases
of the orphaned or untended packages. By now, almost 90% of the
packages have been converted!
