	It's not that easy.  Every program in a Debian GNU/Linux
distribution uses (or should use) dotlocking, so mail should use that
if you don't want data loss, even if you don't do NFS.

	If, for example, qmail is locking your mailbox with flock
while you are reading it with elm, and elm uses dot-locking, it could
be a problem even with local filesystems.

	And I think dotlocking is not that slow...
