Because it isn't in /bin/perl!
The "foo" example I had was of an upstream Makefile that did "foo"
in it's "install" target. And presumably the makefile was going to
check where perl could be found. But it's always hard to follow these
discussions, where people quote pieces of emails, and make comments
about only a small piece.

I removed my /bin/perl link some time ago.
