* To avoid use of non-free 'compress' as far as possible, use gzip for
files used only locally (log files). For sending batches, arrange
things so that the real compress binary is in $PATH before a (always
present) symlink to gzip, so that it is used iff installed, gzip
otherwise. This removes the need for maintaining the symlink in
/var/lib/news/bin. (Bug #8464)
* Change name of upstream changelog to "changelog.gz", as standard
requires. (Bug #9653)
