If python is expecting Chris Provenzano's "mit pthreads" which *used* to be in libc, but got broken, then dropped in favor of LinuxThreads, you might want to try the "oldmitpthreads-0.0" package I uploaded to support gnat programs; it's got the old libc5 pthreads with some minor fixes.
