No need to fiddle if you use ssh. You don't even need to set your
DISPLAY environment variable.

ssh -- it's not just secure, it's easier as well.

xhost is a security problem, and should never be used. It allows
anyone on another host (the one named in xhost, or any other host
that can impersonate it) to access everything that happens on your
X server -- including reading keypresses and window contents.

xauth is a better way to do it, and ssh does it automatically.
