Bug#5244: ilu/python/python-base dependencies

I tried selecting ilu with dselect, and it informed me that it would
try and install python 1.3 to satisfy ilu's requirements.  But it then
told me that the python-* 1.4 packages conflicted with the older
python.  What I'm wondering is whether or not python-* 1.4 satisfies
the same requirements as python 1.3?  If so, how can dselect be told
to recognize this?
