start-stop-daemon don't understand "arguments to the daemon"



is it a bug or am i doing somthing wrong?

# start-stop-daemon --help
Options:  [snip]
	  -- <... all of the rest are arguments to daemon ...>
          ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^		    
# start-stop-daemon --start --exec ./switchd 10 1 1
start-stop-daemon: unknown argument 10'
Exit 2
