Great! I use it regularly on my system, having got it as part of
dynamic-vc
(ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/utils/console/dynamic-vc-1.1.tar.gz).

Would it be a good idea to have dynamic-vc as a whole as part of Debian?
Let me explain. On my system, there is only one respawning getty, on
/dev/tty1. If I want another login prompt on a fresh VC, I just type
alt+<up cursor>, and the cspawnd daemon catches the signal and opens the
VC. When I log out on that VC, I don't get another login prompt, instead
the VC stops being active and gets closed by cspawnd when it next checks
for dormant VC's (which it does every 10 minutes or so).

This saves having respawning gettys unnecessarilyk, and allows you to use
as many VC's as you like, allocating them dynamically. If you use
cspawnd(8) together with open(1), you get a powerful full-screen
`windowing' systtem.

On the other hand, maybe you guys just use X if you want that sort of
thing - it's not very conducive to Braille, though, so I have to find
something better :-).

Thoughts, anyone?

Nikhil.
