new ncurses release impossible to upgrade to

Has anyone tried Michael Alan Dorman <mdorman@lor49.med.miami.edu>'s
new ncurses stuff:

   ncurses-base
   ncurses-bin
   ncurses-term
   ncurses3.0
   ncurses3.0-dev


I think there is a problem with the dependancies on them:

 * There are Debian packages that depend on 'ncurses-runtime': gdb,
   lynx, and dialog.  A lot of other stuff depends on dialog.

 * I think that ncurses-base should 'provide: ncurses-runtime' for the
   time being. Either that, or gdb, lynx, and dialog need to depend on
   some other ncurses thing.

 * There are quite a few packages that probably _should_ depend on
   ncurses-runtime: eg vi, emacs (to name a few).

Am I missing something?  Why has no one else seen these problems ?
