This will be implemented in dpkg 1.0.9 (along with the retirement of
the Revision field as discussed and announced a few months ago).

You'll also get a warning now if you leave off the `=' for an `exactly
equal' relationship, or if the version string appears to start with a
non-alphanumeric and isn't separated from the relationship by
whitespace.
