Passwd/Group changes proposal v2
Here is the status of what I intend to do for rex.
* Qmail:
Will allocate 7 UIDs and 1 GID in the 0-99 range. Christian, would
you please send me the exact names you want ASAP ?
As the rex release date approaches, I don't think it's reasonable to
try to allocate IDs after 65000 as adduser didn't reserve this range
specifically for Debian, and that will be easier for Christian to
have fixed UIDs rather than try to use `adduser --uid' (what would
happen if it didn't work ?).
See further.
* Ftp entry in passwd:
Will be removed.
* Gnats UID/GID:
The exisiting UID will be changed to match a new GID.
* Majordomo:
Will remain as it is now (that is _broken_) unless someone is willing
to test the following changes:
/etc/passwd:
majordom:*:30:30:majordomo:/var/majordomo:/bin/sh
/etc/group:
majordom:*:31:majordom
To become:
/etc/passwd:
majordom:*:30:31:majordomo:/usr/lib/majordomo:/bin/sh
/etc/group:
majordom:*:31:
* Cosmetic change in group:
The additionnal GID 0 (root) entry for UID 0 (root) will diseappear
as GID 0 is already the primary group for root.
* New allocations:
The package smartlist will get UID list and GID list.
The paclage ircd will get UID irc and GID irc.
====
To be done later for bo:
* Automatic passwd/group updates:
I've already got a small prototype. Will put it in experimental as
soon as the rex frenzy is over :-)
* More cosmetic changes in passwd and group.
* Enforcement of Ian Jackson's policy. That means that qmail might
then be relocated into higher UID/GID space.
===
If anyone has any complaints, criticisms, applauses, etc about this,
please reply ASAP, I intend to get all the rex fixes done by the end
of the week, and probabl earlier than that.
Thanks.
Phil.
