Ah... That's the name it is given when dpkg is through with it.
callandor:/var/lib/dpkg/info> ls -l *.shlibs
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 33 Sep 28 18:35 libpaper.shlibs
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 31 Sep 26 17:31 slang0.99.34.shlibs
