As gs maintainer, I feel like this probably is a gs bug. However,
with gs-aladdin-4.03-3, and the above mentioned ghostview, I can
see the competition's build guildines perfectly OK.

What version of gs are you using, and do your problems persist
if you upgrade to gs-aladdin-4.03-3?
