Bug#4988: make dpkg-shlibdeps recognize scripts/java programs?

Package: dpkg-dev
Version: 1.4.0.3

Would it be possible to enhance dpkg-shlibdeps to recognize (and
generate null dependencies for) executables that are interpreter
scripts or java binaries? I'd like to be able to do the equivalent

dpkg-shlibdeps debian/tmp/usr/bin/*

in a debian/rules file without having to worry about which files are
scripts or java files and which files are "real binaries".

I'd be happy to submit a patch if that would help, but wanted to check
to see if you thought the idea was reasonable first.
