No, it needs to be text based.  It needs a novice or bulk mode with
no dependeny issues to worry about (in addition to it's advanced
selection mode where you can choose packages microscopically).

The article is right.  Installing Debian on a new system will fail to
load modules until you can get a correctly compiled kernel/modules
setup installed.
