There may be some reason that you wouldn't want to do this, but I
think you can get the effect you want using the kernel-package
package.  This would basically require you to build the kernel just
once for each kernel configuration you want.  This will leave you with
an appropriate kernel-image .deb package for each configuration, and
then you can just install the relevant package on each machine.  You
could even automate this.

The kernel-package package will also make sure lilo gets run at the
right times etc.
