Bug#4203: sendmail does not install if /usr/sbin/sendmail does not exist?

Version: 8.7.5-4

or directory
dpkg: error processing sendmail_8.7.5-4.deb (--install):
 subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 2
Errors were encountered while processing:
 sendmail_8.7.5-4.deb

Apparently the install fails because the installation script is run with
-e set. If I touch /usr/sbin/sendmail, it installs fine.
