When I tested this yesterday, I was using an older version of ae,
and didn't see the problem.  It turns out that the ae-962-6 change
to work around the problem with the new ncurses introduced this
problem by turning off ICRNL when putting the terminal into raw mode.
I've just uploaded ae-962-7 to master, which should fix this by
turning ICRNL back on and putting the terminal into a half-baked
mode.

ae-962-7 needs to go into the distribution and onto the install disks.
