request for advice on proposed JDK (Java Development Kit) package
In the process of working on a Debian package of Sun's JDK, as ported to
Linux, I've discovered that while ports of the JDK can be made available via
ftp, Sun now prohibits ports from being put on CDROM without a license.
I suspect that this means that the JDK itself cannot be put anywhere in the
Debian archive.
I see three ways to proceed from here:
1. Create a Debian package and make it available from the Linux/JDK port site.
2. Do #1, and in addition, create a "JDK pointer" package for the actual
distribution which will simply tell users where to find the JDK package, or
perhaps even try to automatically install it for them.
3. Forget the whole thing.
Any thoughts?
