I'm convinced. The purpose of the base floppies is to bootstrap the system
to the point where you can run "dselect" to get more stuff onto the system
via FTP or CD. The base floppies on their own don't have to assemble a
FSSTD system, but the packages that provide any FSSTD functionality that is
missing from the base system should be marked at high priority and perhaps
pre-selected for the user.
Dale sent a note about network-capable base systems. The next floppy release
will be able to run dselect-ftp over ethernet - that means you need to be
on a LAN with a gateway or a local Debian server. I want to be able to
bootstrap SLIP and PPP connections from the installation floppies so that
they could self-install via modem, but have just not had the time to make
that work.
Thanks
Bruce
