Bug#3095: xbase kills xdm and *then* asks (politely, but , belatedly)

Is there an approved methods of insisting that dpkg uses this option.
My first thought (which I implemented) was to depend upon dpkg being
>= 1.2.1. This doesn't seem consistent with other dpkg upgrades. For
example, pre-depends has the "--assert-support-predepends" option. Of
course, I could just use "compare-versions" and fail if dpkg is not
new enough.

What are your suggestions?

By the way, I am quite impressed with the latest version of dselect.
Keep up the good work.
