Bug#2734: Installing Debian 1.1

Package: base_floppies
Revision: 19th April

I'm trying to install Debian 1.1 pre Alpha 0... Everything went fine
until I tried to install the Operating System kernel. Until that point
everything looks very nice, too, thanks.

The monitor tells me:

---
Installing the kernel...

cpio: not found

Somethnig went wront. You might want to write down the error messages
before you continue...
---

I _have_ installed the base system without any error, neither while
creating the floppies nor while installing the base system.

Funnily I, too, couldn't locate cpio on the new installed system. I
don't know why it is gone (I thought it is used for installing the
base system). Could you check that out, please.

Another thing, the installation program tries to determine the current
state of the system afterwards. Unfortunately it seems to ignore this
error and asks me for configuring the base system instead of trying to
repeat my last action. Could this be changed, please.

Have a nice sunday,

	Joey
