You _totally_ missed the boat on Carl's comment.

To restate his comment in less ironic (but not nearly so clever)
terms:

While the price per MB of HD space may be real low, you have to buy a
1GB drive (that is, "lots of 1000" of MBs) to get those sort of
prices.

Personally, I think this fact renders the arguments about, "compressed
man pages only saves a couple of dollars of disk space" rather
questionable, since someone having to add disk space would actually
have to spend a lot more than a couple of dollars.
