This is a moot point, since before you can install ld.so you need an ELF
kernel. I don't quite understand the requirement but...
I am working on the upgrade process, and have the patches you will need
to upgrade 1.2.13 to ELF. Anyone wishing to try this step, please contact
me for further details.
Once you have an ELF kernel, the latest version of dpkg (either ELF or
a.out) should work for you. (I can also give you an "order of
installation" for the base packages if you like)
You will also find two of the packages in base currently depend on
package upgrades from outside base. Modconf depends on dialog, and
libgdbm1 depends on a newer version of man than is found in the R6
distribution. Several packages in base will require --force-overwrite
(unless you are using the dpkg version that has this as the default) and
several packages will require that other packages in R6 be purged before
they will install. I should have a detailed FAQ out by next week some
time (if my karma holds out).

Good Luck,

Dwarf
