Just yesterday I started a shell under emacs (M-x shell) and noticed
that it set the env var TERM to "emacs". It also set the env var
TERMCAP appropriately, but I was wondering what it did for terminfo
stuff. Now, it seems, we know.
I also have a ".terminfo" directory that I never created. Mine also
has an entry for "screen".

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they're not.
