boot floppies work-in-progress
This is mostly of interest to the people working on the Sparc, Alpha, and
68k ports, and to people who want to customize the boot disks in some way.
I have uploaded my work-in-progress of the boot-floppies package to
ftp://ftp.pixar.com/pub/bruce/boot-floppies-1.1-0.tar.gz . This currently
produces working boot and root floppies for the 1.1 system, but not base
floppies.
This package contains the source for a "tiny" set of Unix utilities,
and a script for creating shared-library subsets that contain only the
objects used by the executables on a boot disk. The parts to look at are
/usr/src/boot-floppies-1.1.0/utilities/busybox/* and
/usr/src/boot-floppies-1.1.0/scripts/rootdisk/generate_library . These should
be useful for creating boot floppies on other platforms.
Mark Shuttleworth <marks@thawte.com> is attempting to patch this to run
with a disk-cartrige root, with the installation files residing on the disk
cartrige. I am continuing my work on the script to create the base floppies.
Thanks
Bruce
