Bug#2431: Emacs mishandles X fonts.

Version: 19.30-1

This version of emacs fails to load a font that the previous non-elf
version had no troubles with.  The command that precipitates this
error is:

(setq my-bold-base-font "-schumacher-clean-bold-r-normal--12-120-*")

This command is from my .emacs file, and the error emacs reports on
startup is:

Error in init file: error: "undefined font", "-schumacher-clean-bold-r-normal--12-120-75-75-c-60-iso646.1991-irv"

Not only did this work fine in the previous incarnation of emacs, but
xlsfonts has no problems with the font:

(janus) xlsfonts -fn -schumacher-clean-bold-r-normal--12-120-75-75-c-60-iso646.1991-irv
-schumacher-clean-bold-r-normal--12-120-75-75-c-60-iso646.1991-irv
-schumacher-clean-bold-r-normal--12-120-75-75-c-60-iso646.1991-irv
