I just figured out that apparently several packages in the non-free
and contrib trees are ELF. Therefore, apparently, because I have
allowed ELF binaries to execute with my kernel installation, these
packages execute correctly. Could I install just the libc5 package
directly over my stable-debian installation? If not, there should be
some type of warning given to users that they are installing ELF
binaries onto their stable installation. Or maybe the messages I get
that prompted this thread are the warning...
